Electrical components being used in the Army's new 155-rnm guided projectile, Excalibur, are tested for gun-fire survivability using a Ballistic Rail Gun. This provides a cost-effective method to demonstrate reliability and durability at a component level. The existing Ballistic Rail Gun test hardware provides an inadequate G-level test environment, limited reusability, and significant risk of failure. This paper covers the design, analysis, and testing of the Rail Gun Test Projectile which was developed to deliver improved G-levels at a reduced risk and cost to the Army.
