Large motorway projects in Greece: the management of geotechnics in the Egnatia Odos project

Managing the geotechnical activities in the 680 km long Egnatia motorway project in Greece is a difficult task. The owner of the project, Egnatia Odos S.A., identifying the related difficulties at an early stage, took strategic decisions to overcome them and achieve quality results within the time and budget constraints. The paper outlines the actions undertaken in the domain of geotechnical investigation, design, monitoring and construction and evaluates their effectiveness.
