Counterfeit or "fake" products present a huge threat to governments, manufacturers, workers and consumers around the world. In 1982 the International Trade Commission estimated counterfeiting and piracy losses at US$5.5 billion. The most recent estimates place annual losses at US$450 billion. Current solutions against counterfeiting are based on wither overt or covert solutions. Overt devices are visible to the eye, and to ensure effectiveness, end users should be made aware of overt measures on packaging and displays or through other means. Such solutions would be optical variable devices (OVD), security papers, microtext, and barcoding. Covert devices are invisible to the naked eye and are often more difficult for counterfeiters to duplicate successfully. They also have little or no effect on the design of a package the common solutions are based on Ultraviolet/infrared light-visible elements, microscopic nanotext and hidden images, and radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology. Kafrit Industries has a new and innovative anti-counterfeit solution based on a unique covert technology. The new products main purposes of use are either defense against counterfeiting of brand, products, and valuable goods, or tracking & tracing solutions of goods In the traditional plastics industry, the Kafrit solution is useful for either applying for the manufacturers own goods and/or for the converters customer goods. The System consists of a taggant masterbatch and a portable detector. The masterbatch is based on micron-sized mineral powders (1-2 microns), only 1% of MB is required to secure most objects the use of the masterbatch does not impair optical, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties. The additives also meet with EN71 regulations, and are suitable for use in most polymers. The detector is a portable RF transceiver that works on several sub-molecular physical effects such as MRI and ESR. No human judgment means higher operator performance reliability in adverse conditions. Provides solid evidence in court of law. Indication False rate (Positive and Negative) less then 0.001%, a reliable and clear signal, regardless of environmental conditions.
