PEAT AS DEEP-LITTER MATERIAL FOR FATTENING PIGS

摘要

The aim of this survey was to find out if use of peat mixed with straw would increase the period for how long the deep litter bedding can be in use for fattening pigs. The survey was carried out in a laboratory. Four different kinds of mixtures were tested in laboratory in vessels in two replicates. Pig slurry was added to the vessels twice a day. Temperatures of the mixtures were measured, the nutrient content of the mixtures were analysed and calculations of the nutrient losses were made.
