We show the implementation of a plastic molded micro-optics array based on a new design that can improve the efficiency of the device by more than two times, thus providing significant reduction of power consumption e.g. for mobile displays. The micro-optics array replaces the encapsulation-can already required in order to protect OLED from environment and the assembly process is very similar. In Contrast to existing solutions, our array does not diffuse or reflect ambient light and thus does not degrade the OLED contrast under practical viewing conditions, and it does not induce any optical defects like Moire patterns or color shift. Moreover, the angular emission characteristics of the display can be adapted to the application requirements, ranging from near lambertian to more collimated, in order to further reduce power consumption for mobile displays.
