This paper presents the preliminary results of a Ph.D.project aimed to develop and implement a framework for the incorporation of reliability, availability, maintainability, supportability and life-cycle cost (RAMS/LCC) aspects in the design and development process of large-scale, complex technical systems. Within a systems enginering approach this shall lead to faster, more affordable design, production or manufacturing, operation and support of high-quality systems that satisfy all customer requirements.
