RISK - INFORMED DECISION MAKING DURING BOHUNICE NPP SAFETYUPGRADING

The paper summarizes some facts of risk-informed regulation developments within UJD regulatoryrnenvironment. Based on national as well as international operating experience and indications resultedrnfrom PSA, Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic (UJD) since its constituting in 1993 hasrndevoted an effort to use PSA technology to support the regulatory policy in Slovakia. The PSA isrnconsidered a complement, not a substitute, to the deterministic approach. Suchlike integrated approach isrnused in decision making processes and the final decision on scope and priorities is based on it. The paperrnoutlines risk insights used in the decision making process concerning Bohunice NPP safety upgrading andrnfocuses on the role of PSA results in Gradual Reconstruction of Bohunice V1 NPP. Besides, two otherrnexamples of the PSA results application to the decision making process are provided: the assessment ofrnproposal of modifications to the main power supply diagram (incorporation of generator switches) and thernassessment of licensee request for motor generator AOT (Allowable Outage Time) extension. As anrnexample of improving support of Bohunice V-2 risk-informed operations, concept of AOT calculationsrnand Bohunice V-2 Risk Monitor Project are briefly described.
