We propose an efficient load-balancing algorithm using a predictive and adaptive bandwidth reservation scheme for increasing available bandwidth in a cell in this paper. In our scheme, we first predict the directions of mobile hosts by using dMPP (directional mobility pattern profile). The results of the prediction are then used for reserving a part of bandwidth for hand-off calls and this reserved bandwidth can be used for hand-off call prior to new connection requests. The proposed algorithm also tries to balances the mount of available bandwidth between the cells whenever a wireless link is requested. Therefore, the amount of non-used bandwidth should be continuously kept enough in each cell. In order to evaluate the performance of our algorithm, we measure metrics such as the blocking probability of new calls and the dropping probability of hand-off calls, and compare with those of existing schemes.
