The interconnection of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) changes the network operation and power flow of traditional power distribution network and in some circumstances even leads to the malfunction of protection and automation in distribution network. Under such condition, the improvement of Feeder Automation (FA) is to correspond to the effects of the interconnection of distributed energy resource in power system. Smart distributed fault location and recovery method is presented in this paper. By proposing the process to realize fault isolation through the differential-activated algorithm based on synchronous sampling, framework of fault recovery is established for distribution network with DER. Fault isolation algorithm is proposed to meet multi-connected and multi-branch distribution network with distributed energy resource. Finally, the effectiveness of this algorithm is verified via both computer simulation and dynamic simulation of distributed power system with distributed energy resource in actual power network within the National 863 Program of China.
