In this work, cationic initiator was synthesized and its photo-induced cationic polymerization kinetics has been investigated by real-time infrared spectroscopy (RT-FTIR), four epoxides were employed as monomers. The kinetics results indicated that initiator concentration increases from 0.5% to 1%, the rate of polymerization and conversion increases dramatically; continuous increase concentration of initiator only causes small amount increase of rate of polymerization and conversion. Dark reaction results indicated that there is strong post-curing process for epoxide-based monomer cationic polymerization. At the fix initiator concentration (2%), the final conversion increase at following order for different epoxied monomers K-126 < GEKR-114 < DYD-128 < JY-257, the chemical structure of monomers affects the polymerization kinetic significantly.
