A typical mechatronic product includesrnmechanical parts, software, electrical and electronicrncomponents. The complexities of mechatronic products highlyrnincrease the cost in their prototyping design. Therefore, how tornreduce the cost and find a more reliable and efficient designrnmethod become great challenges in the future design forrnmechatronic systems. A potential solution is to use SolutionrnElements (SE), which encapsulates engineering expertise, inrnthe design process. This paper presents the interaction issues inrnour Virtual Mechatronic Prototyping (VMP) system. Specially,rnwe explore 1) how to visualize SE and assemble themrninteractively in the virtual reality environment, 2) what is therndesign method of SE based mechatronic prototyping and 3)rnhow the system supports collaborative work.
