1. Development of a methodology allowing to highlight the M/NFC characteristics depending on the initial pulp properties 2. MFC characterisation, in suspension or in a fibre matrix allowed to show different behaviours: 2.1 A process effect (Kraft>sulfrte): directly linked to the fibre composition (could be cancelled out if sulfite pulp is never dried) 2.2 A major impact of hemicelluloses content (sulfite 92% > sulfite 96%) 2.3 A wood specie effect (Hardwood>softwood): probably linked to the hemicelluloses structure xylans vs glucomannans 3. The higher the hemicelluloses content: 3.1 the smaller the fine elements, 3.2 the more homogeneous the suspension 3.3 the better the paper properties when MFC are used as additive.
