Indirect Squeeze-Casting - Process and Applications

Indirect squeeze casting (ISC) is a high performance aluminium casting technology, yielding products of high strength, good material soundness and dimensional accuracy comparable with that of the conventional high pressure die casting process. Extensively developed world-wide, ISC can be competitive in lightweight high performance products meeting the constraints of automotive components especially through an optimised compromise of casting and machining. This paper describes the vertical injection squeeze casting VSC and HVSC process, its use in particular in the automotive components developed by Valfond and the corresponding market opportunities.
