In the present paper we obtain an intuitive understanding of the statistical properties of the fields, and elucidate the type of information obtained from the various optical statistical tests. Phase-transition-like behavior in both A and V schemes is discussed. The relationship between three statistical parameters, the Fano factor, the second order correlation function and the relative variance is discussed. Each of these three characteristics represents some statistical aspect of the field. It is instructive to present here the subtleties of the three parameters for the cases of three level A and V systems. These have very close relation to the minimization principle that deals with noise reduction in laser fields (A.M. Khazanov, G.A. Koganov and R. shuker, Phys. Rev. A 48, 1671 (1993)).
