In this paper, the three-dimensional simualtion of turbulent flow in the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, using a modified K-omega two-equation turbulence model with boundary-fitted orthogoal curvilinear coordinate and rezone technique to cope with different off-center between intake valve and piston-bowl, was carired out. Meanwhile, the air velocities in the same conditions were emasured by LDA and compared with the calculated values. The agressment between them was os good that the model and program developed by this work were proved to be satisfactory. According to the results obtained by calcuation and measurement, the velocity field is manifestly three diensional at all times. There exists tmbling, confluent, squish and reverse-squish flow inside cylinder through intake and compression stroke. The turbulent kinetic energy in intake was greater than that in compression storke. During compression, the spatial distribution of TI trends to be consistent, so does their temporal evolution.
