In order to manufacture high-quality products, the precision of machine tools needs to be increased. Since the main causes of errors in high-speed precision machine tools are thermal deformations, ways of reducing the effect of the latter on the machine tool's precision are sought. In this paper, problems relating to the modelling of the thermal behaviour of high-speed machine tools and the improvement and optimisation of their design through numerical analysis aimed at minimizing thermal deformations are considered and the effectiveness of methods of compensating thermal errors in real time is assessed.
