In this paper, mean daily values of vertical component at Jiayuguan and Qianling geomagnetic stations during 1998-2002 are used to study the relationship between the seismcity and the variations of geomagnetic field in west Gansu Province and its adjacent areas by using Higher-Order Statistics (HOS), correlative analysis and linear fitting methods. The results indicate that the anomalies of HOS are located at 1-3 months before earthquakes; it is earlier 1-2 months than these of the correlation coefficient and linear fitting difference. The magnitudes of the anomalies of Third Order Moment and Third Order Cumulant range 5 to 10, Fourth Order Moment are > 50, up to 150, and Fourth Order Cumulant is 10-60.
