Fieldbus Protocol Conversion Method and Its Application in Gateway Development

This paper presents an efficient solution for fieldbus protocol conversion. Principles for protocol conversion were discussed and the feasibility of designing fieldbus converter was discussed. The layered structures of Profibus-DP and Modbus are analyzed, and the communication model for the fieldbus converter is proposed. Based on the analysis results, the realization method for the gateway between Profibus-DP and Modbus was presented, including the hardware design and workflow of the software. The proposed solution is a good way for integrating of different fieldbus devices. The test results have shown its high real-time performance and reliability.
