SRI - A comprehensive web-database for Roman stone monuments

The web-database SRI is a working database of the interdisciplinary research project Stone-Relief-Inscription and related projects in Austria and its surrounding. It contains general data of selected Roman stone monuments, detailed petrographic information (data, diagrams and photos), detailed relief information (photos and descriptions), detailed inscription information (texts and their translations), and literature. The quarry database contains general information on the quarries and the detailed petrographic information (data, diagrams and photos). A classification of the monuments based on their cultural context and a classification of the used materials (combining petrographic names with local names used by the archeologists) have been developed. The database will be used for the interpretation of social, cultural and economic history of Roman stone monuments of Noricum (Austria) by combining methods of the humanities and natural science.
