Material of Indirect Tooling in Rapid Prototyping

Tooling is an important area in the manufacturing process. Rapid tooling is the concept of producing tools through the aid of rapid prototyping. Making rapid prototype patterns as master mould, and using metallic composites, ceramic composites, gypsum, reactive forming plastic and silicone rubber to copy mould, is very convenient. The elasticity and duplication of silicone rubber is quite well. It is easy to demould and has no influence on the size accuracy when silicone rubber was used to copy mould. Pouring generic silicone rubber, there are always some bubbles that usually affect the property of patters. This paper introduces the technology of pour silicone rubber. An overview is given about the development of silicone rubber, such as the type, the curing system, recipe, reforming and application.
