Overview of Used Dynamic Models in Dam Deformation Analysis

Dam deformation analysis is one of the essential components in dam safety monito-ring. The goal of the analysis is to identify, extract and generalize the various deformation data from huge volume of raw data. Generally, models of dam deformation analysis include:parametric and non-parametric models. Parametric models may be based on principles of me-chanics of continuum and non-parametric models are based on mathematical and statistical theory. Presently, a large amount of research activities in dam deformation analysis are in developing new models to analyze dam deformation data. The paper reviews methods such as: finite element method (FEM), regression model, partial least-squares (PLS) regression model, artificial neural network (ANN) model, time series (TS) model, grey system (GS) model and some combined models. The methods have been applied in dam deformation analy-sis, and have shown good results in modelling and predicting deformations. The principles and characteristic of above listed methods are presented.
