SMS Demag AG is one of the leading industrial plant solution providers for the steel and metals industry. Joint solutions in mechanics, electrics and automation are designed to provide our customers with a technology that is able to produce advanced materials with high performance in terms of product quality, productivity, flexibility of production, stability of the process and ease of maintenance. Examples of such joint developments for CSP casting and rolling are: For CSP thin slab casting: Mould Level Control, Hydraulic Mould Oscillation, Autopilot for taper and speed optimization, Hydraulic Segment Adjustment with LCR3, Dynamic Secondary Cooling and Mould Monitoring System. For CSP rolling: CVC+ technology implemented as special roll grinds and suitable shifting strategies for strip profile- contour and flatness control and "Schedule Free Rolling"; or the "Thin Gauge Technology Package" for efficient hot rolling of thicknesses below 1,0 mm using components such as "Differential Tension Loopers" or "Tensiometer Loopers " and fast hydraulics in conjunction with automation modules like automatic levelling control, looper measurement based flatness control, tail end monitoring or wedge measurement based levelling preset. Not only joint mechanics and electrics design, but also joint project execution is beneficial to the plant operator. For example, start-up times for modernisation projects and newly erected plants are optimised by applying thorough joint laboratory tests before delivery. The "Plant-in-the-loop test (PILT)" combines a simulation or even the mechanical components themselves with the original automation (level 1, Ievel2 and HMI). With such joint solutions, SMS Demag AG, whose field of electrics and automation has grown to a full supplier and system integrator "from the motor shaft to the production planning system", aims at a long-term partnership, sharing technological experience with its customers.
