A Strategic Framework for Investment on Information Technology and Internet Enabled Computer Aided Design in Architecture Practice

In facing the globalisations, as well as the open economic environment such as ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), the architectural practices need to prepare themselves for a more challenging business competition. The use of Internet and IT were identified as the main tools that will help architectural practice to face the challenge. Since CAD is the main 'IT' tool in architectural practice office currently, the importance of iCAD in facing globalisation need to be studied closely. It was found out that one of the critical component that can't be identified in the architecture practices was a strategy in the IT and iCAD investment; there were no clear objectives, preplanned actions and strategic benchmark in manipulating the potential of iCAD that will lead them towards waste of time, money and resources. Based on the platform of a few identified aspects, the paper started to form a model of a strategic framework that will be useful for the architecture practice to understand and develop a strategy to change.
