This experimental research is a "first step" for the creation of a simplified tool to be used in the evaluation of existent tapered plate girders. Using a validated finite element method, it is possible to create a large and extensive database, with various scenarios of degradation. This data, analyzed with Data Mining techniques, is a contribution to the development of new knowledge about the shear behavior of corroded web panels in plate girders. This will be certainty an important tool in the inspection and assessment of steel girder bridges.
