Estimation of the Vehicle Emission Inventory in Beijing

A method was developed in this paper to estimate the spatial and temporal distribution of vehicle emissions in Beijing based on the sparse database. Because of the lack of the monitoring data, the auto sources were treated as line sources and area sources respectively. For line sources, lots of counting on site had been conducted to find out their traffic flow and vehicle type mixture, for area sources, the total non-line-source vehicle traveled mileage were distributed to different grids based on people density and road areas in the grids. The results show that the vehicle emissions in Beijing increase greatly, and the polluted area are expending largely with the expanding of population, and if no further control was given the urban air quality would be insufferable.
