6 conservation tillage systems and one conventional tillage system for winter wheat production in northern China were studied By assessing theit yield, water storing capacity, water use efficiency and practicability of mechanized operations, it can be concluded from field trials that the subsoiling with chopped straws cover plus disc harrowing, no tillage covering with chopped straws plus disc harrowing and subsoiling with chopped straws cover plus disc harrowing systems are better conservation tillage methods for winter wheat production. The average wheat yield of the 4 conservation tillage systems was 14% higher than that of the convention tillage.
