Cellulose acetateano-silica composites were prepared and spun into fibers. Their morphology were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, specific surface area analysis by BET and cigarette smoke analysis. The results showed that the composite fibers had an optimal filtration effect on the tar and nicotine in cigarette smoke. Compared with conventional cellulose acetate fibers, the composite ones had greater specific surface area, and the reduction in tar and nicotine in the smoke after filtration with the functional fibers was 44% and 35%.
