Structural Design of Large-Span Roof of Capital Museum's New Building

The large-span roof structure of the Capital Museum's New Building is supported by several relatively independent structures. The maximum-cantilevered length of the roof to the north of the building reaches 21m. The main truss is made of square hollow section and there is a large elliptical opening on the roof structure. The lateral-load resisting system uses inclined struts in short-side direction of the roof and prestressed rods between steel columns in the long-side direction.
