Injury Prevention in Canada

摘要

Injuries are a particular challenge for children, the primary focus of this paper, being responsible for over 50% of death for ages one to 14 years and over 70% of deaths in the 15-19 year-age group. The significance of injuries is further underscored by being responsible for so much morbidity that they are, depending on the year, the second or third leading cause of hospitalisation in Canada. Moreover, 10% of children are injured annually severely enough to see a physician. The economic burden is estimated to be over $2 billion CAN every year.
