This paper presents a research into the technological process of argon-arc welding by non-consumable electrode as an object of automatic control. The features of manual and mechanized argon-arc welding are considered. The main perturbation actions affecting progress and quality of welding process are identified. The welding process quality parameters are chosen. A functional scheme of welding process digital stabilization system is suggested. The arc length is substantiated to be chosen as main control action of the system stabilizing the argon-arc welding process by manual and mechanized method. A special torch with moving current-conducting element is designed to provide functioning of the arc length stabilization system. The torch nozzle is moved by a step motor. With the designed automatic system of manual welding stabilization process variation of arc voltage value was stabilized in the range lesser than 1% which significantly increases the quality of manual welding and improves the shape of the weld.
