A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of adding eight levels of filter mud (by-product of processing sugar cane) on growth and uptake of some nutrients by corn plants grown on virgin sandy soil as well as on the changes in soil characteristics after cultivation. Increasing the rates of filter mud added to the soil progressively increased growth and uptake of N, P, K, Fe, Mn and Zn and improved the physical and chemical properties of the soil after cultivation. Economically, it is recommended to add filter mud at 0.4% (w/w) for improving soil fertility, growth and uptake of nutrients by com plants grown on sandy soil.
