Occurrence Probability of Wave Grouping for Different Shapes of Wave Energy Spectra

Field observations show that there is a general tendency of increase inwave grouping as a wave energy spectrum becomes narrower. However,it is also possible to get the wave time series with same energyspectrum but having totally different wave groupiness. In this study, inorder to investigate the relation between spectral shape and wavegrouping, 1000 wave time series are created by Deterministic SpectralAmplitude model for each of four different shapes of energy spectrum.Considering two main properties of wave grouping: 'sequence andexceedance', average values and probability density functions of wavegrouping are obtained for each spectral shape. Thus, the relationbetween wave grouping and spectral shape is shown in a probabilisticmanner.
