Performance Comparison of the Buoy-Mounted and Land-Based Laser Wind Sensor in the Harbor

The objective of this study is to validate and test the performance oftwo LiDAR systems including buoy-mounted and land-based laserwind sensors, which were deployed at the Hsing-Da Harbor for tendays. The buoy-mounted laser wind sensor obtained from the AXYSWindSentinel™ was moored in the harbor, and land-based laser windsensor called WINDCUBE v2 was placed at a flat terrain 500 metersaway from the harbor. The results include the comparisons ofregression analysis of mean wind speed and direction, mean wind speedand direction profiles, and turbulence intensity. From the results, itshows satisfactory agreements between two LiDAR systems. Overall,the comparisons also show the high accuracy and reliability of AXYSWindSentinel™ to measure the wind resource in the nearshore andoffshore regions.
