Soundquality and Soundscape: A New QualitativeApproach to Evaluate Target Sounds

Exposure group description of sound and vibration can be used as a powerful tool in the evaluation of sound and vibration quality. Until now this method based on AISP (Exploration ofAssociated Imaginations on Sound Perception) was used only in the context of large public research projects. Nevertheless, the industry - especially the car industry - is interested in using this tool for product sound development. The present study was intended as a first approach to refining the knownmethod for industrial application. The study was carried out using a car with changeable acoustic properties which was conducted by the evaluating individual within different environments. The associations, impressions, and evaluations mentioned by the person tested were recorded while driving. Later on an open interview with the driver was carried out based upon said associations, impressions, and evaluations. The collected verbal data were analyzed through the qualitative approach method. Furthermore, a model for the assessment of sound and vibration, as well as some initial usable tools and guidelines for the industrial application, were developed.
