Magnetotransport in a ballistic wire under the conditions intergerand fractional quantization was studied experimentally. A nonlineardependence of filling factor (ν) of the Landau level was observed. Thisdependence arises if the self self-consistent electrostatic potential of the wire has aspecial form. It is assumed that the observed effect results from the influenceof int interaction between electrons at the partially occupied Landau level on thispotential, which leads to a decrease of electron density in the wire as themagnetic field increase in the case of ν< 1
