The placement of sensors holds critical importance when it comes to estimation of capacity of a window air conditioner (AC). The paper provides experimental results indicating a variation in the capacity of an AC, when calculated for sensors placed at different locations. The experimental test set-up is based on ISO 5151: Air Enthalpy Method for determining the cooling capacity of an AC. The set-up also implements psychrometric chart as provided by ASHRAE to calculate air properties. The performance of sensors has been found identical at a particular location and the data been used to estimate the capacity in BTU per hour. The optimal location thus found may be used to design a Non Invasive Instrument for the determination of performance of a window AC.
