An electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) system is described. The capacitance transducer incorporating an interface circuit with the remote transputer network can provide a data acquisition speed of 100 framesls and measurement resolution of 0.3 fF (it represents a 2 percent solids area-fraction change at the centre of an empty pipe). Results were obtained for monitoring a fluidized bed over a wide range of flow conditions. A future application of ECT for on-line control of gas-solids system is addressed.
