A large-scale of graphite platelets nanofibers were prepared bypyrolysis of acetylene at 600-800℃. Transmission electron microscopy indicates thatthis kind of nanofiber look like a linear of lens-like segments with nearly equalseparation , which consist of well-ordered graphite platelets intermittently stackedperpendicularly to the filament axis. It was found that the catalyst particles adoptingthin slice shape and the optimum flow rate of acetylene are responsible for the growthof segmented graphite nanofibers. It was found that the catalyst particles adopting thinslice shape and the flow rate of acetylene are critical for forming segmented graphitenanofiber.
