The presented work is concerned with therndevelopment of innovative strategies and toolsrnfor the management of collaborations betweenrnoriginal equipment manufacturers (OEM) andrnsuppliers in product development departmentsrnin automotive industry. The term “supplier”rnrefers to system suppliers who deliver complexrnsystems directly to the OEM as well as torncomponent suppliers who deliver indirectly tornthe OEM. Due to rising product complexity, thernneed for collaboration in the productrndevelopment of car components is stillrnincreasing. For instance, in the design of anrnautomotive seating system for a certain modelrnmore than a hundred industrial designers,rndesign engineers, project managers,rnaccountants, and prototype experts need torncollaborate effectively and efficiently in order tornachieve the technical and economic objectives.rnExtensive work has already covered this arearn[Eckert et al. 2001, Kristjansson et al. 2003,rnKrystek et al. 1997, Link et al. 2001,rnShaughnessy 1994, Wunram et al. 2003],rnespecially in the field of collaboration inrnindustrial production (supply/value chainrnmanagement). However, in daily practice manyrnproblems on a technical, personal, andrnorganisational level still hinder efficientrncollaboration. This paper presents a collectionrnof strategies and tools which were found tornsupport the collaboration management. Firstly,rnthe results of an in-depth analysis of the productrndevelopment are presented in section 1.rnSecondly, the strategies and tools that wererncollected and generated on basis of the analysisrnare described in section 2.
