Preparing Australia's workforce for the implementation of a Smart Grid

This paper has been prepared to address the issues surrounding training for a Smart Grid. It is primarily the result of the compilation of environment scan reports produced by the relevant Industry Skills Councils (ISC), ElectroComms and Energy Utilities Industry Skills Council (Ee-Oz) and Innovation & Business Skills Australia (IBSA) and the latest report from the Australian National Engineering Taskforce. By combining the findings of these reports this document highlights the projected training needs for the major industries associated with the electrical grid in Australia. Through a highly regulated environment, both in performance and in training, Australia has improved in electrical safety in relation to other parts of the world. To maintain or even improve this high standard it is essential that the workforce be of sufficient size and education.
