Implementing A Cohesive Engineering Strategy Within A Corporate Matrix Structure

To achieve competitive advantage, an engineering enterprise adopting a matrix organisation needs to make the most of its engineering capability against a background of potentially competing project objectives and business imperatives.rnThis paper explores the pursuit of engineering strategy through the complementary perspectives of system product and engineering process. It proposes that these facets should be facilitated, co-ordinated and controlled through the business enabler of process improvement. In support of this proposal, the paper describes a CMMI-based framework through which to increase engineering capability across such an organisation.
