Keeping in view the emerging trends in the use of ceramics in engineering applications and the need to join ceramics/metals, a study has been taken up on the active metal brazing of Al_2O_3 to SS 304, Ti stabilized SS, commercial pure Ti, Type 430 SS & Inconel 718. The brazing alloys employed are in-house developed. Interaction of the active elements (Ti/Hf) with the ceramics appeared to be the key mechanism of joining and this is found to be dictated by the metal member in the joint.
