This paper presents a novel 24-slot/14-pole modular symmetric six-phase permanent magnet (PM) machine which manage to reduce magnetomotive force (MMF) harmonics and achieve high magnetic isolation features. Polyphase fault-tolerant drives constructed with full-bridge inverters are usually expensive and bulky. In this paper, 6-phase/8-leg and 6-phase/9-leg voltage source inverters (VSIs) are proposed and investigated in order to reach a compromise between system cost and fault-tolerant ability. Additionally, two remediation methods are adopted and compared for one-phase and two-phase open circuit fault.
