HVDC developments for the all-island Cyprus system in a pan-European long-term perspective

This paper analyses the current and potential HVDC developments in the eastern Mediterranean region, with specific focus on Cyprus in a long-term time horizon (2030 and post-2030). For this purpose, a tool suitable for optimization analyses has been applied upon the build-up of a pan-European zonal model and the related scenarios to duly take into account the system of Cyprus. HVDC technology proves its effectiveness to interconnect the island of Cyprus to the continental European system.
