A history of MIMO wireless communications

摘要

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication technology has observed remarkable growth, moving from a research concept to widespread implementation in just over 10 years. But MIMO finds its roots in antenna diversity, whose history starts back in the 1920s. This paper provides a brief summary of the history of antenna diversity and MIMO systems, emphasizing some of the key associated developments in antenna design and electromagnetic propagation.
