A Novel Approach for the Detection and Correction of Single Bit Error in RRNS Architecture

In digital communication lines, the need for efficiency, speed and reliability cannot be ignored. Residue Number Systems (RNS), which is an unweighted number system, has and continue to attract a lot of attention from the research world. This paper presents a new algorithm that is premised on the Modulus Projections (MPs) and the traditional Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) for the detection and correction of single bit error in RNS. The proposed scheme and the scheme presented by Pontarelli et. al [10] use simple adders and Carry-Save Adders (CSAs) for the hardware architecture. However, the proposed scheme can detect and correct single bit errors in RNS by 53.9% in terms of speed and considerably reduces the hardware complexity by 12.8% when compared to the scheme presented by Pontarelli et. al [10].
