The precise control of winding tension is a key technique for manufacturing strip wound prestressed dies. The principles of producing and controlling of the winding tension are discussed in this paper. Considering a set point of variable tension in a strip winding control system, the main reasons of tension fluctuating are analyzed. An integrated control strategy of compensation and fuzzy control is proposed, which includes forward feedback compensation control of velocity, fuzzy control of tension in part of unwinding and fuzzy control of velocity in part of winding. The simulation model of strip winding control system with a double motors structure is set up using Matlab. The simulation results show that the performance of winding control system is improved by adopting this kind of integrated control strategy. The stability and accuracy of velocity of motor is improved, and the degree of tension fluctuating is reduced obviously. This kind of control strategy can be applied in actual system in order to improve the distribution of prestress within the strip wound dies, and make products achieve a longer service life.
