A Novel Fault Location Algorithm for UHVDC Transmission Lines

摘要

The fault location methods of UHVDC transmission lines can be divided into traveling-wave-based algorithm and fault-analysis-based algorithm according to the principle. This paper presents a novel fault location algorithm, which first uses the fault analysis method to obtain the current distribution along the DC line, and then obtains the characteristic curve of the traveling waves head propagation by detecting the first mutation time of the current distribution along the line, finally calculates the fault location by using the principle of traveling-wave-based fault location algorithm. Compared with the existing fault location algorithms for UHVDC transmission lines, although the calculation process of the fault location algorithm in this paper is more complex, its reliability, anti-interference ability and resistance to transient resistance are significantly improved, it retains the advantages of travelling wave fault location featuring high positioning accuracy.
