This paper investigates a pipeline operator’s options and techniques for testing,rnmonitoring, and the maintenance of AC mitigation and cathodic protection systemsrnafter these systems have been designed, installed, and commissioned for a pipelinernin a joint facility corridor with high voltage AC electric transmission lines. It can bernvery confusing and intimidating to a pipeline operator to monitor and test thesernsystems for company and regulatory compliance and safety of company personnelrnand the general public. In addition, there are a number of safety precautions thatrnshould be adhered to whenever tests are being conducted in joint facility rights-ofwayrnnear high voltage AC electric transmission lines.
