Application of Inclusion Compounds to Visible Light Emission Films

Sodium dichromate (Cr) and diazo compounds, diphenylamine-4-diazonium sulfate/formaldehyde condensate (DSR) in polyvinyl alcohol emulsion (Cr-PVA or DSR-PVA ) are used as the light sensitive materials for binding phosphor powders on the multicolor screen. Inclusion compounds, 18-crown-6 (18C6), polyethylene glycol 300(PEG) with 7 oxygen atoms and cyclodextrin (CD), were added to Cr-PVA or DSR-PVA films. The thermal decomposition of the unexposed DSR-PVA films was suppressed by addition of 18C6 or cyclodextrin (CD). CD includes the benzene ring of the diazo compound. The photobleaching and the shelf life of unexposed DSR-PVA films were improved by formation of the inclusion compound with 18C6. Relative emission intensity of the exposed blue phosphor screen films of DSR-PVA or Cr-PVA films, with 18C6 or PEG was 10% higher than that of the film without additives. The inclusion compounds, 18C6 and PEG, increased the transmittance in the visible light region of the film, more emission came out easily from the inner part of the film.
